CRUSHING AREA

Our crushing area, where the hulk of the car goes through the final processing, is a well-organized area that utilizes four full time employees. The vehicles are prepared for crushing by removing all of the fluids, including the gasoline, antifreeze, and transmission fluid, in addition to more valuable scrap items like the aluminum bumpers and evaporators. The hulks are then stacked until it is time to crush them.

This is where, after all desired parts have been pulled, the last value of the car is literally "squeezed out." The vehicle is crushed, often with the motor and transmission still in, and placed on a stack awaiting transport to the car shredder.

Often, while waiting for the market to go up, hundreds of cars lay in flattened stacks where they will be loaded onto flatbed trucks and transported to a car shredder, where they will be ultimately processed into reusable materials and products.

The last step in the process is loading the stacks of bodies onto a flatbed truck. In order to comply with federal laws regarding containment of loose items, we wrap each "bundle" in plastic webbing, and securely bind the load for safe transport to the shredder.
